Alan Shearer – Only Kane can break my record

Alan Shearer believes Tottenham‘s Harry Kane can succeed where Wayne Rooney has failed and break his Premier League goalscoring record.

Shearer currently sits at the top of the pile as the highest ever goalscorer in the Premier League, netting 260 times in the English top flight.

The Newcastle legend’s record looks incredibly tough to beat but many thought Wayne Rooney had a great chance when the young forward burst onto the scene.

Rooney has consistently scored double figures in the league for Manchester United but has played a deeper role in recent seasons and lost some of his goalscoring ability.

With the England captain on 194 Premier League goals Shearer doubts the 31-year-old will now beat his record but feels Tottenham star Kane does have the ability to overtake the 260 league strikes he set.

At just 23-years-old Kane already has 56 goals in the division and Shearer reckons that the England striker can overtake him if avoids injury and decides to stay in England throughout his career.

“Harry Kane has made a stunning start to his career in the Premier League. If he avoids injury and continues his career here rather than trying his luck abroad, he will have the opportunity.

“Sergio Agüero also plays for a strong and very aggressive team. But I think that the same question can be applied to him. Will he stay for the rest of his career in the Premier League?”
