Janssen finished at Spurs

Vincent Janssen is finished at Spurs after the £17million striker refused to leave on deadline day.

After a poor debut season in north London, Mauricio Pochettino no longer sees the 23-year-old Dutchman as good enough to either compete with or deputise for Harry Kane.

Janssen has already been left out of Tottenham’s Champions League squad and, following the arrival of £14million Fernando Llorente from Swansea, he is set to be frozen out of the domestic first-team picture.

Having been stung by their previous bid to keep faith with flop Roberto Soldado, Tottenham want to cut their losses early with Janssen and not persevere again with a player they feel is not up to the job.

Spurs made it clear to rival clubs during the summer that they were willing to listen to offers for Janssen.

But when West Brom, Stoke, and Brighton tried to sign him, the ex-Alkmaar striker refused to go.

Even after Llorente’s arrival, Janssen maintained he did not want to leave a “top club”.

It led Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to warn the marksman that the club were ready to freeze him out if he did not go.

Janssen remained unrepentant to leave Levy furious, the clubs chasing him frustrated and Pochettino unimpressed.

He is now set to be left out of the weekend trip to Everton after being made perfectly aware of where he stands.
