Luke Shaw keen to play under Pochettino again

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw admits he is keen to play under Mauricio Pochettino again and believes the Tottenham manager wants to sign him. Shaw thrived under Pochettino at Southampton before the 22-year-old made his £30million move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2014.

Shaw has struggled since his switch to United, and has made only two appearances as a substitute in the Carabao Cup this season, sparking fears that his time at the club is over. Reports on Thursday also claimed that Shaw is ‘no longer on speaking terms’ with Jose Mourinho.

And Shaw now admits he would welcome a reunion with Pochettino. ‘He used to call me his son,’ the defender wrote in Guillem Balague’s book Brave New World: Inside Pochettino’s Spurs. ‘That’s how good our relationship was. I’ve had lots of ups and downs, but when I was with Pochettino it was only ever up, up, up.

‘He made me feel that I was the best. He’d show me clips of my games and say, “You could do this better”. Not in a horrible way. Not I could have done better, but I should have done better, because he knows I can be better. ‘I think with Southampton he achieved the impossible. We were one of the best footballing teams in the league… I do hope that I can play for him again one day. ‘And I think he really wants me to play under him again.’

Shaw can expect to come face-to-face with his former coach this weekend with Tottenham visiting Old Trafford in the Premier League this weekend.
