Newport adding extra seats for Spurs cup clash

Newport County are hoping to install an additional 1,000 seats at Rodney Parade for the FA Cup fourth round clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

As a reward for overcoming Championship outfit Leeds United in the last round, The County will have yet another opportunity to cause a cup upset when they host last season’s runners-up in the Premier League next weekend.

It’s been 58 years since the two sides last met – a game in which Spurs ran out comfortable 4-0 winners – and this upcoming eagerly-awaited encounter has seen interest from supporters sky-rocket as the club have received more than 1,500 hospitality requests.

Such has been the demand for tickets, County are keen to install an additional 1,000 seats behind the North Terrace, and that along with along with the already extended seating at the opposite end of the ground, the capacity would reach around 10,000 – provided these plans get the green light.

Ticket prices have been revealed and vary from as much as £37 for adult 100 Club members to just £5 for children under the age of six.

The club explained the reasoning behind these prices via their official website: “Ticket prices have been set in conjunction with Tottenham Hotspur FC and are reflective of the tie and additional resourcing and infrastructure costs which are associated to the match.”

Furthermore, the Lilywhites will be allocated 1,660 tickets split between the Bisley Stand and Purevans.com Stand – the reason behind this increased allocation is due to the erection of a 600-seat temporary stand.

Without a shadow of a doubt this is one of the biggest games in The Exiles’ history as manager Michael Flynn plots the downfall of Mauricio Pochettino and help the League Two play-off contenders reach the fifth round of the competition for the first time since the 1948/49 campaign.

Spurs, on the other hand, will be keen to avoid going out at this stage as the FA Cup represents one of two realistic opportunities Pochettino has to finally end the club’s 10-year trophy drought.
