SN Blog 17 – ‘Merry Christmas’

Merry Christmas fellow Tottenham fans, I hope you all enjoyed the festive season with loved ones and to those who worked or are about to go back to work I salute you.

So where to begin with this latest blog post about Spurs, really there is only one place and that is Harry Kane who on Boxing day netted yet another hat trick to break the Premier League calendar year goal record, which had stood since 1995!  A fantastic achievement but add to that the fact that of the top five European leagues Harry finished the top goal scorer with an average over one goal a game.  Messi and Ronaldo who?!

Young Kane

Coming through our academy, going out on loans and then working hard on his game so he can live his dream of playing for Spurs makes Harry Kane truly one of our own.  A great guy off the field and a great on it.  He does not embrace ‘celebrity’ like many  young English players rather choosing to spend his time with his young family, playing golf and working hard on the training ground.

A model professional and a fantastic example to the entire academy.  There is nothing more to say about the man.

Away from Kane we have managed to put the terrible result away at Man City to bed by picking up maximum points from our latest games and now have a busy run ahead against teams we must be targeting maximum points against.  A real opportunity before the Champions League returns to establish ourselves in the top four.

Also, I want that FA Cup.  We have won it eight times and it is time we made it nine!  We were close last year, semi final defeat to Chelsea was hard to take but we need to go better this year.  We have the team that on our day can beat anyone.  Lets do it.

2018 of course starts with lots of fixtures but also signals the opening of the winter transfer window.  Now, we as a club rarely do business here however there are rumours and hints that all of that could change this year – not because we are about to go spending crazy on megastars – but the club are going to try and use January to steal a march on rivals by signing players who will join in the summer.

The only player I can see us trying to recruit this January is Ross Barkley from Everton, however we know Chelsea will rival any bid we make – likely offering Everton more money and the player a lot more money.  It will be a true test on what the player wants to do / if the rumours of him wanting to work with Poch are true.

This is my last blog of 2017 so thank you for reading my rambled thoughts and please allow me to wish you all a happy new year and a happy and healthy 2018!

-SJ
