Spurs boss backs Janssen

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has backed Vincent Janssen to step up and fill the void left by Harry Kane between now and the end of the season.

The Dutch striker was rushed into the first team much earlier than Pochettino wanted early in the season due to an injury to Kane and struggled to find his feet in the Premier League.

It was two months ago that Pochettino had commented that Janssen was struggling and in training his levels were not what the boss wanted to see with many journalists speculating the players confidence had gone and was not even able to score in practice sessions.

during 2016 International Champions Cup Australia match between Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico de Madrid at Melbourne Cricket Ground on July 29, 2016 in Melbourne, Australia.

Since the manger spoke with the player however he has found his confidence again and is hitting the target and scored his first goal from open play at the weekend coming off the bench in the FA Cup with a neat instinctive finish.

“It is not easy for a player to come into this league and we knew when we signed Vincent that he would need time.” The manager continued; “In football you need to be ready when you have an opportunity to show your quality and that time is now for him.”

Many Spurs fans trolled the striker on social media at the weekend following his goal that he found his level, that level being League One!

Spurs fans have in the past demanded the sale of players without giving them time, the most extreme example being Gareth Bale right before his breakthrough season and in most recent memory star left back Danny Rose quit social media to the level of abuse he got on signing a new contract with the club.
