Spurs set to complete £55.5m move for Ndombele

Tottenham are set to complete a club record £55.5million move for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele in the coming days, according to reports in Italy. Lyon confirmed on Tuesday that the Frenchman had informed the club of his desire to leave this summer. ‘He is seeking a departure,’ confirmed Jean-Michel Aulas. ‘Nothing is done but the door may be open.’ Ndombele impressed in Lyon’s Champions League run last season and was praised by Pep Guardiola after his performances against Manchester City in the group stages.

Manchester United had been heavily linked with a move for the midfielder but Gianluca Di Marzio claims Tottenham have won the race. The report claims Spurs are ‘on the verge’ of completing the move and it will be worth a club record €62m ( £55.5m) before bonuses. Ndombele’s arrival will end an 18-month wait for signings for Spurs fans, with Lucas Moura the last player to move to north London. A few details remain to be ironed out but Spurs expect to close a deal in the coming days before presenting Ndombele as their first signing of the summer. The 22-year-old will be seen as a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele, who left the club midway through the 18/19 season to move to China.

Mauricio Pochettino was promised an unprecedented transfer budget this summer after guiding Spurs to the Champions League final. It remains to be seen whether Christian Eriksen will get his wish of leaving the club as Real Madrid are focused on signing Manchester United ace Paul Pogba. The Dane revealed his desire to leave shortly after Spurs’ Champions League final defeat to Liverpool but the club remain hopeful of convincing him to sign a new deal.
