Spurs target Newcastles Sissoko

Tottenham are ready to make a pre-transfer deadline move for Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko as manager Mauricio Pochettino attempts to boost his squad.

With Spurs on the verge of completing deals for Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez and Marseille winger and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, the club have also made an enquiry regarding midfielder Sissoko.

Having seen a £12million bid rejected by Crystal Palace for Wilfried Zaha, Tottenham are looking at alternatives ways to give Pochettino greater strength in depth.

Newcastle’s £35million valuation of Sissoko could provide a major stumbling block, however, as Tottenham will be reluctant to pay over £20m due to the 27-year-old’s age.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will hope that with time running out in the transfer window, Newcastle will choose to cash in on Sissoko and accept a lower bid. Everton and Crystal Palace have also shown an interest in Sissoko, while Juventus have been touted as a possible destination overseas.

With Marseille’s takeover now complete, Tottenham expect to finalise the drawn-out signing of N’Koudou, which could see Clinton N’Jie move the other way. Hull and Sunderland are battling over the signature of Mason.

Heung-Min Son will be allowed to leave Spurs if Wolfsburg can match Levy’s £25m valuation, with the winger admitting his prospects do not look good.

“I haven’t heard anything about my transfer,” said Son. “I don’t want to think about things happening outside the stadium. I just want to focus on playing football.

“It’s not a good sign that transfer rumours are coming out, but I think it’s meaningful that those in Germany acknowledge me.”
