Wanyama back in first-team training

Victor Wanyama has trained with his Tottenham team-mates for the first time since suffering a knee injury in August.

The 26-year-old Kenya midfielder joined the first part of Monday’s session in the snow, as he steps up his recovery from nearly four months on the sidelines.

Wanyama sustained the injury in training ahead of Spurs’ win over Burnley on August 27. He had played in both of the club’s opening Premier League games against Newcastle and Chelsea.

Eric Dier had settled into a midfield role in Wanyama’s stead but the England star has been forced to play at centre-back because of an injury to Toby Alderweireld more recently.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has not settled on a midfield pairing since, playing two or three of either Moussa Sissoko, Mousa Dembele, Harry Winks, Dele Alli or Christian Eriksen, as Spurs took a dip in form.

They secured their first Premier League win in five matches by thrashing Stoke City 5-1 on Saturday, with Winks and Dembele in midfield.

A potential Wanyama return over the Christmas and New Year period would give Spurs a huge boost. He was one of their star performers as they finished runners-up in the Premier League last season.
