Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has signed a new contract until 2023.
Winks has made 25 appearances for Tottenham this season but only three since the turn of the year, all in the FA Cup, having been hampered by an ankle injury.
The injury cost the 22-year-old any chance of making the England squad for the World Cup in Russia this summer and he is scheduled for surgery.
But he has now been handed an improved five-year deal by his club, who are hoping he will return to full fitness before the start of next season.
Winks said: “I’m delighted to sign a new contract with the club.
“It’s been a mixed season for me in terms of playing, with some of the heights of the Bernabeu (beating Real Madrid in the Champions League) and getting some great wins, but there’s been some lows as well with my ankle injury.
“I’m determined to go forward positively, though. It’s easy to dwell on the negatives and the hard stuff that’s happened this season but all I can do really is to focus on the positives.
“I’ve had some great times so hopefully I can take that into next year and create more memories.
“I’m still young, I’m really happy that the club has made such a statement to me by offering me a long-term contract, and obviously now I want to try to repay that faith by getting ready for the new season.
“The most important thing in the short-term is to get myself fit, get my ankle right and hopefully I can have a long, injury-free campaign next year, contribute to a lot of games, and we can go on and win a trophy that we all know we want and deserve.
“I’d like to be a part of that.”
Centre-half Cameron Carter-Vickers, 20, has also committed his future to the north London club by agreeing a new contract until 2021.
The USA international spent last season on loan in the Sky Bet Championship with Sheffield United and Ipswich.
“I’m delighted to sign a new contract,” Carter-Vickers told the Spurs website.
“I’ve worked hard out on loan this season, trying to get as many minutes and games as I could. I feel like I’ve improved as a player and it’s definitely benefited me.
“Now, I’m looking to kick on. The next step for me is to come back for pre-season, get my head down, work hard and try to impress the manager and as many people as I can.”
