Defensive crisis ahead of NLD

Tottenham have had their injury problems of late and this has only increased over the international break. We are now facing a defensive crisis with first team players Hugo Lloris, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen all all major doubts for Arsenal.

Tottenham’s success of the past few seasons have been built from the back. Lloris, Vertonghen and Alderweireld have been integral to our best defensive record in the league. However, Alderweireld is already ruled out of the weekend’s clash. Jan Vertonghen is struggling with an injury picked up in training for Belgium but hopefully will be passed fit.

Our captain, Hugo Lloris, looks to be losing his battle to be back in time. With back up keeper Vorm also out, that would leave Paulo Gazzaniga to continue in goal.

There is also the problem of possible fatigue. International breaks often see our players flying out all over the world. Centre back Davinson Sanchez knows this only too well, having travelled over 12000 miles recently. He hasn’t picked up any injuries (*touch wood*) but will likely be feeling far from fresh.

That leaves our potential defence a little worse for wear and will need some patching up. We could possibly see this back line:

Gazzaniga

Trippier, Sanchez, Dier, Vertonghen, Davies

Looking at the defence on paper it doesn’t look too bad. Our clash with Arsenal will be a big test and a sign of how strong our squad really is.
