Eriksen praises Davies and Vertonghen

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has been giving his opinion on two of the club’s defenders.

Jan Vertonghen and Ben Davies were arguably Spurs’ most consistent players last season and the Dane is among those leading the plaudits for the two defenders.

Davies has become Tottenham’s main left-back in the past 18 months following Danny Rose’s knee injury and recovery and greatly improved his attacking input to the team.

The 25-year-old Welshman created more chances than any other defender in the Premier League last season.

“Coming a bit from the outside, Ben has been at the club for a few years now being one or two with Danny Rose. He’s been playing regularly and he’s shown what he can do,” Eriksen told the club’s YouTube channel.

“I think it’s a big credit to him that’s he been so stable. He doesn’t do any crazy things, you know where he is and he does his job very well.”

Vertonghen is a player Eriksen knows very well, having played with him at both Ajax and Tottenham across his career. The 31-year-old centre-back had a great season at the back for Spurs and was voted as the club’s player of the season by the fans.

“There’s not many games I don’t play with Jan! At the moment he’s getting old but he doesn’t seem old or look like he’s getting old. He’s getting more and more energy,” said Eriksen.

“He’s always a fun, good guy to have around in the changing room and the group, but also on the pitch because he’s a leader. He always has been and he feels comfortable going into every game.

“He’s not only playing, he’s playing very well. Every game his level is very, very high. He’s consistent and stable in everything he does.

“He doesn’t have any poor game. He’s the perfect centre-back I think, which you want.”
