Eriksen to miss international fixtures

Christian Eriksen is almost certain to miss Denmark’s games over the international break as he continues to recover from an abdominal injury.

The 26-year-old has missed Tottenham’s last four fixtures, including the Champions League defeat to Barcelona and Premier League wins over Huddersfield and Cardiff.

Denmark head coach Age Hareide has indicated that Eriksen’s type of injury can become chronic and therefore both the player and his club are protecting him against that happening.

Denmark face Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Saturday in the UEFA Nations League before a friendly against Austria the following Tuesday, and Haraide is not expecting to have the player available.

Quoted in Danish paper B.T. he said: “Christian has a problem with the stomach muscle, and Tottenham has tried to communicate that it is of a long-term nature.

“It is very doubtful that we can persuade him to come to Dublin and make him play. I do not think that Tottenham is particularly interested in that either.

“It has been over a week [since he last played] and I know that he has known about it for a while. Such an injury can become chronic, and that is what Tottenham also fear.

“I hope it won’t happen to Christian. We have two important matches in November as well. We’ll look at him, but I do not think we’ll see Christian in Dublin.”
