Alan Hutton believes Tottenham would be getting rid of a “very good player” if they were to sell Kyle Walker-Peters this summer.
The former Spurs and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits he is surprised the promising right-back, 22, has not been given more of a chance after Serge Aurier’s erratic form.
Speaking about former manager Mauricio Pochettino in an interview with loan side’s Southampton’s official website, Walker-Peters said: “I think had he stayed, I’d still be at Tottenham.”
Hutton believes the promising talent may need to move come the summer to prove his worth, suggesting he has been wrongly overlooked in north London.
Hutton told Football Insider: “It’s been difficult the right-back situation over the last year or so since Trippier left and Aurier came in.
“He’s (Aurier) very up and down, he’s probably one of those that the manager’s probably pulling his hair out sometimes watching him.
“You would have thought Walker-Peters would have maybe got a chance with Aurier being up and down but obviously the manager hasn’t really fancied him.
“He’s still got time on his hands, he’s a young boy, he’s went out on loan so maybe it’s time for a little change, try something different, new scenery and get to work and prove to everybody
“He’s obviously a very good player, he’s broke through at Tottenham, there’s no denying that and show to everybody how good you actually are.”
