Hugo wins Nations League trophy

Hugo Lloris produced two fine late saves to help France lift the UEFA Nations League trophy with a 2-1 win over Spain on Sunday night.

Spain had led through Mikel Oyarzabal in Milan before Karim Benzema’s equaliser and a controversial goal from Kylian Mbappe turned the game around.

Hugo, captain of Club and country and a World Cup winner in 2018, then stepped in crucially to deny Oyarzabal before acrobatically keeping out Yeremi Pino’s effort in stoppage time.

Hugo played the full 90 minutes while Bryan Gil and Sergio Reguilon were unused substitutes for Spain, as Les Bleus became the second winners of the Nations League after Portugal in 2019.
