Jan Vertonghen Signs New Deal

Jan Vertonghen has become the latest Tottenham Hotspur player to commit his future to the North London club.

The Belgian defender opened negotiations at the end of last season and fresh terms have finally been agreed, with the 29-year-old tying himself down to the club until 2019.

Since moving to White Hart Lane from Ajax in the summer of 2012, Vertonghen has become a vital member of the defence.

In fact, he and Toby Alderweireld formed a solid partnership last season under manager Mauricio Pochettino, conceding just 35 goals – the joint-lowest in the Premier League.
