Former Tottenham Hotspur and Germany striker Jurgen Klinsmann has raved about his admiration of Harry Kane and has significant praise for the Spurs academy set-up in producing the forward.
Kane has left his quality in no doubt having scored 28 goals or more in each of the last four seasons but ex-USA boss Klinsmann also commented on how complete his game was – notably described the 24-year-old as a ‘great connector’ and likened the England international to Teddy Sheringham.
While Klinsmann had a disappointing end to his tenure with the US national team, he played a large role in reinvigorating the side’s youth development and Joachim Loew even credited his compatriot – describing the Germany’s 2016 World Cup win as ‘the result of that work, beginning with Jurgen Klinsmann.’
As such his profuse praise of the Spurs youth system has some weight.
The 53-year-old told the Tottenham website: “I’m a big admirer of Harry. He’s very complete in his game.
“He can score with his left foot, right foot, his head and he’s a great passer of the ball. He’s a great connector as well, a little like Teddy was. He was always complete as a player as well.
“I’m even happier because he comes out of that great culture created by Spurs, a product of the Academy. That makes you super-proud because you feel even more connected with him.
“I just think that the foundation of every club in the world is its own products, its own players.
“He’s down to earth because he grew up with this balance and the hard-working, grounded environment at Spurs. That makes him who he is and of course, he’s worked tremendously hard for it.
“I always say to people ‘you are a child of your environment’ and Harry is certainly a child of the Spurs environment. That makes me really happy.”
