Latest: Davinson Sanchez

Davinson Sanchez has been on Spurs radar since last season when he helped Ajax to the Europa League final.

The Colombian centre back is a powerful presence and would add pace and youth to an experienced back line. At 21 years old, he is one of the most exciting prospects in the game and Ajax are therefore keen to keep hold of him.

It was reported late last week that Tottenham were interested in the defender. He was left out of the team on Saturday due to management feeling he did not have the right mindset. Ajax director  Marc Overmars offered him a “double your money” new contract after just one season with the club.

On Sunday Ajax told the defender that they didn’t want him to leave with a club spokesman confirming; “Last year Sanchez signed a five-year contract and we don’t want to let him go.”

Dutch teams are often seen as selling clubs if the price is right. Reportedly that figure is set at £35m. Latest news, as reported by The Independent, believe Sanchez has asked for a move to Spurs before the end of the transfer window.

Spurs will be reluctant to pay £35m for a defender with only one season of European football under his belt. The Dutch league is one of the weakest in Europe and is hard to judge the quality of the players. With that being said, Sanchez looks a real player in the making and it’s reported that he turned down Barcelona last season for fears of a lack of game time. The Evening Standard and Guardian suggest a Spurs delegation is in Amsterdam now and expect Spurs to offer £25m.
