Man City want Harry Winks

Manchester City are considering a shock swoop for Tottenham’s Harry Winks with Jose Mourinho willing to sell.

The Special One is embarking on his first summer transfer window in north London and the midfielder faces an uncertain future.

Pep Guardiola though is a big admirer of Winks who could be on the move should an offer of £40m be tabled, reports The Sun.  Tottenham and City have previously done business when Kyle Walker moved to the Etihad in 2017.

The north Londoners have a host of midfield options and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg recently joined from Southampton further increasing the competition.

The Englishman was a favourite under the former Tottenham boss but doesn’t have the qualities that Mourinho tends to look for in a midfielder.

There is a reluctance to sell to big six rivals however but the Portuguese boss is aware that if he wants to put his stamp on the squad he will have to raise transfer funds through player sales.

Winks’ possession-based style lends itself to the system Guardiola employs at the Etihad and the Catalan has just lost David Silva from his ranks.

Tottenham could also offload club record signing Tanguy Ndombele just a year after signing him from Lyon.

They are highly unlikely to recoup the £65m it cost them to sign the Frenchman, although club chief Daniel Levy is known for being shred in the transfer market.

No Tottenham midfielder appeared for then Winks last term as he made 36 appearances in all competitions.
