Match Preview: Spurs Vs Burnley

TEAM NEWS

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino’s team selection will depend on a late fitness test for Mousa Dembele, who has a foot injury.

Vincent Janssen will also be assessed for an ankle injury but Erik Lamela remains out due to a hip problem.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche will have to decide whether to recall Steven Defour, having dropped the midfielder to the bench for the last two away matches.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson could miss out again because of a hamstring injury.

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAY

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino on Eric Dier playing different positions: “When he was playing as a midfielder, as a centre-back or as a full-back, he never came to say he wasn’t happy to play there or in another position. We’re talking about rumours.

“First of all he’s 22 years old. He arrived as a 19-year-old and after two-and-a-half years he’s averaged – and I don’t want to be wrong – more than 40 official games every season.

“His quality is that he can play in different positions – that’s very important for every coach.”

Burnley manager Sean Dyche on his side ‘exceeding expectations’ this season: “We’ve not necessarily exceeded ours but I think we’ve exceeded everyone else’s.

“Not so much our fans and certainly not myself, my staff and the team. I made a joke when we got promoted it was 48 hours before we got written off this time.

“I think it was well documented that nobody gave us a chance of being in this division, but overall we’ve given a good account of ourselves.”
