Rafael van der Vaart: Joining Spurs was the best thing that happened to me

Fomer Tottenham Hotspur star Rafael van der Vaart has no regrets about signing for the club back in 2010, despite reports at the time linking him with moves to Arsenal or Bayern Munich.

The Dutchman was a big success at Spurs after joining from Real Madrid in 2010 when a reported move to Bayern Munich fell through late in the summer transfer window.

Van der Vaart was asked recently about those links to Arsenal which came around the same time as his move to Tottenham to link up with Harry Redknapp.

“Yeah it did get mentioned. I had several conversations with Robin van Persie, and he’d spoken to me about Arsenal a few times, but I never heard anything,” the 35-year-old midfielder told fourfourtwo.

“I did not regret it – joining Spurs was the best thing that happened to me.”

Van der Vaart spent just two seasons at the club, during which he became a fans’ favourite, before returning to his former club Hamburg.
