Sissoko proving critics wrong?

Moussa Sissoko is a player that has come under much criticism since his big money arrival. Is he starting to prove his doubters wrong?

Let’s be honest – the reason Sissoko has come under so much scrutiny is because he was expensive. The £30m price tag and means he is our all time record signing. Pochettino didn’t help matters when he described the clubs transfer policy back in January:

If we spend £25-30 million, we need to be sure that this type of player represents Bale or Cristiano for Real Madrid, or Messi or Neymar for Barcelona. We need to speak about a player that is our best player and need to help us to achieve a lot of things. It’s impossible to sign a player for this amount who we need to wait to perform.

Well… Sissoko is not Bale or Ronaldo. He’s not Messi or Neymar. Nor is he our best player. With that being said – we fans were puzzled by his signing and it seemed like a panic buy.

The French midfielder got off to a poor start to the season – but this can be put down to him missing pre-season with Newcastle and adjusting to life at Tottenham. Things seem to have turned a corner for him in recent weeks with good performances against Man Utd, Swansea and Hull City.

Sissoko will keep his place in the team against Burnley at the weekend and will look to impress once more. He needs to continue with this good form to put to bed his critics but he is going the right way about it.
