SN blog 46

I type this having just watched us lose 1-0 to Manchester City. Our third defeat of the season in the league.

So when Mahrez scored in the sixth minute I decided I would write this blog tonight. I was going to use this platform to vent my frustrations with Spurs. Bizarrely I find myself less angry and upset with Spurs now than I did then.

Like I regularly say, we are all entitled to our opinions when it comes to football and more specifically our club, but I sit here, in defeat, feeling maybe more positive than I have in a while.

Sissoko for me had his best game in a Spurs shirt by a country mile. We still saw the odd familiar mistake, but he looked more confident on the ball, making some impressive driving runs through the midfield – he didn’t have that usual shell-shocked demeanour about him.

Winks was very positive and energetic when he came on. Alli and Eriksen also gave us more of an attacking threat when they were brought on. Lloris’ distribution impressed me. Lamela, despite missing a sitter, something I think the pitch played a big part in, gave his usual 100%

Don’t get me wrong, there were things in the game that dampened the positivity. Kane still looks tired. Dier, despite a resurgence in form recently seemed to go two steps back tonight – I just believe overall though we wasn’t dominated by, in my opinion the best club in the country.

One thing is abundantly clear watching the game tonight though. We NEED to go home. We have out-stayed our welcome at Wembley. The markings for the NFL game played yesterday at Wembley still clearly visible on the pitch was a stark reminder of that. The irony that there will be plenty of NFL games played at our new stadium, only when that happens we have a special second pitch for them to play on!

The top tier looked very bare, understandable if we were playing Cardiff but this is Manchester City. The Premier League champions. As a season ticket holder I’m really not sure if I’ll go to any more “home” games at Wembley. We now know there’ll be at least four more played there, but at the moment my mindset is that I’d rather spend the 1/19th refunds I’ll get on a weekend away with my wife and kids.

Like most fans I just want us to be home, at White Hart Lane. Seeing Kyle Walker tonight only reminded me of our last season at White Hart Lane and the scintillating football we played.

I know being back home isn’t a guarantee we’ll be back to those days, but it sure isn’t going to happen when your defender isn’t sure whether to clear the ball or make a 30-yard field pass.

Hopefully with Alli and Eriksen only playing a small part in tonight’s game they’ll be fresh for Wednesday, and a decent result against that East London mob in their rented athletic stadium, will ease the pain of tonight’s game a little – and maybe bring just a little more positivity back for us home-sick Spurs fans.
