So here I am, back writing a blog only about a month after stopping as I ran out of time to be able to commit to one a week however with the new blog author busy this week I thought I would step in and raise a subject I am seeing discussed on a regular basis across all forms of social media amongst Spurs fans.
That debate relates to our talented Brazilian Lucas Moura.
Focusing purely on his football and not his political views Lucas joined us in January 2018 but had not played any football at all in the 2017/18 season to that point and so struggled to find fitness let alone get any first team minutes for us. The start to the 2018/19 season however was very different and the man came in and made an instant impact scoring and being involved in all of the good play our team managed to put together.
As a team however our performances stuttered and over time people started to wonder why the same group of players this year were struggling so much to find the same rhythm and what followed was a series of tactical analysis from pundits which showed that Lucas being in the team had brought about a change in Spurs play.
Kane dropped deeper, much like he did with England and for Sterling at the World Cup, however for Spurs it meant that Lucas playing was in fact blunting the most lethal striker in the Premier League for the last three seasons.
For many, myself included, the Lucas negative effect was only highlighted by Spurs best performance so far this season coming at Wembley last weekend where Sonny started ahead of him and we tore the then undefeated Chelsea apart.
Lucas returned against Inter and worked VERY hard. He has the ability to beat people, has great pace and 100% for me offers something to the team and the squad however for me while he plays we do not look right in terms of our balance.
This is not a negative about him or Pochettino tactics it just appears to be one of those things at the moment where the manager and the coaching team know he is talented and is a real threat going forward for the team but right now still not found the best way to use him but when we do lets hope we see more of the type of goals we saw him score at the start of the season.
