Son collects four end-of-season awards

Son Heung-min admitted it was strange to receive awards from the Tottenham Hotspur fans when they couldn’t be there to share in the moment and compared it to last season.

Son collected all four end-of-season awards for the second year in a row following Sunday’s victory over Leicester.

He collected the Goal of the Season prize for his solo strike at home to Burnley back in December. He added to that by once again picking up the trophies for One Hotspur Player of the Season, One Hotspur Juniors’ Player of the Season and Official Supporters’ Clubs’ Player of the Season.

Son pointed out the irony of it the fans’ absence this year and his own absence from the pitch last season because of his suspension.

“It means a lot to me. Of course, it’s sad not seeing the fans,” he admitted. “Last year, I won it but I wasn’t playing the [final home] game and today I was playing but the fans weren’t here so it was a bit sad.

“It’s a big honour and a big achievement for me. I’m grateful for every player, every member of staff and every fan. ”

Son has been directly involved in a personal best 22 goals in the Premier League this season with 11 goals and 11 assists. He has scored 18 in all competitions and set up 12 goals.

When asked if he was getting better every year in the Premier League, the modest South Korea captain said: “I try to be. I can’t say yes because I’m not sure. I just try my best every game.

“I’ve been here almost five years and I try to enjoy every single moment. I’m working hard and I try to improve every single day. This is important. It’s hard sometime sometimes to perform amazingly but the important thing is to improve every day.

“This is what I try to do. My teammates help me so this is the reason [for my success].”
