Spurs agree fee for Hojbjerg

TOTTENHAM have agreed a £15million deal in principle to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton this week.

Spurs defender Kyle Walker-Peters will move in the opposite direction in a separate transfer worth £12m after impressing on loan last season.

There are still bonuses and payment structures to be agreed but personal terms are expected to be a formality with both players keen on their respective switches.

Southampton were thought to be holding out for £25m for their former captain – who has just one year remaining on his contract.

Yet Hojbjerg’s decision to snub Carlo Ancelotti to link up with Jose Mourinho cost the Saints the chance to spark a bidding war.

He had already clocked up 25 appearances for the German giants prior to his move to the English South Coast.

The Danish midfielder was stripped of Southamptons captaincy  ahead of the league’s restart, amid continued speculation surrounding his future.

Meanwhile, Walker-Peters has been signed permanently by Ralph Hasenhutti after originally moving to the south coast in January on loan.

Though Spurs are short of cover at right-back for Serge Aurier, Mourinho had ruled out bringing the 23-year-old back into the fold next season.

Walker-Peters burst on the scene during the 2017/18 season, where he was named as the man of the match in the opening weekend’s victory away at Newcastle.

But he has found opportunities hard to come by since then, featuring in just 24 games in all competitions in three years.
