Spurs boss praises team after 4-0 victory over Brighton in WSL

Tottenham boss Rehanne Skinner praised her team’s “energy, enthusiasm and resilience” after they ended a “tough” week with victory over Brighton.

Spurs had been knocked out of both the Women’s FA Cup and League Cup in the past seven days.

But they earned their biggest win in the Women’s Super League against Brighton, whose winless league run extended to a club-record seven games.

“I’m delighted. The team have worked incredibly hard today,” said Skinner.

“To come back into this game, to make sure that we kept our league form in good shape, to get four goals at home and a clean sheet is just a fantastic effort from everybody.

“I’m just so proud, of the energy, the enthusiasm, the resilience that we showed after a really tough week.”

On Sunday, Kyah Simon opened the scoring with an early chipped finish, while the woodwork denied Spurs a second before the break with Rachel Williams hitting the bar with a header.

Ashleigh Neville came off the bench to make it 2-0 early in the second half.

Shelina Zadorsky added a third before Simon completed the easy victory.

Skinner said: “The only expectation I had was the energy – back in the league, we’ve got to make sure we do that against every team that we play against.

“At the end of a three-game week you could question that that might be difficult to achieve, but essentially they’ve done exactly what I’ve asked and stuck to the game plan.

“We exploited Brighton’s weaknesses in the game as best we possibly could which created some quality chances.”

Brighton failed to get a shot on target as their poor run without a victory was extended to 10 games in all competitions dating back to mid-November.
