Spurs set for squad overhaul in the summer?

With no signings in two successive transfer windows Spurs fans have moved from being expectant of incoming players, to wishful to now simply focusing on academy lads and hoping they can be the next Harry Kane or Winks.

However its widely expected that Tottenham are going to be forced to sell one, maybe two of their star players this summer and with two other first team squad members out of contract and set to depart the option to not sign appears to be gone.

Toby Alderweireld is the player everyone expects to leave.  Which was also true of last summer however unlike last summer from when the summer window opens this year he has a release clause of £25m and a host of Champions League clubs have already made it clear they will make a move.  Its understood that contract talks went so badly between Daniel Levy and the players manager (Toby’s father) that the before mentioned family member was banned from the club.  It seems highly unlikely Spurs will therefore make any effort at all to retain the Belgium and are actively trying to move him abroad.

Christian Eriksen is another that appears could be on his way out.  Arguably one of the clubs most important players Eriksen is not one the fans or indeed the manager will want to see go but the Dane has seemingly made his mind up and wants to play the next part of his career in Spain with Madrid his most likely destination.

Due to him not signing a new deal and when this summers window opens only having one year left it is, as with Toby, highly likely Spurs will actually make the moves to do a deal with Madrid who have a history of signing players from North London.

The two players out of contract are Michel Vorm and Fernando Llorente who have both not really set the world alight as back up options in their respective positions this season leading for many fans to call on the club to make moves to sign suitable replacements (for Llorente anyway).

Vorm was out of contract last summer and signed on for another year, rejecting a move back to Holland, as he believed he was set to continue as the clubs second choice but poor form from him at the start of the year saw Gazzaniga get given a chance and the Argentine quickly cemented his position as back up to Hugo.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino also spoke often about the balance of the squad in terms of home grown players.  The balance was off with more players being non home grown than the other and so speculation continues as to who will go and who will join.
