For the past three seasons, tickets for domestic home Cup games at White Hart Lane have been priced extremely competitively, with every match hosted at Tottenham last season charging just £10 for seniors and £5 for juniors in all areas of the ground. The FA Cup third round tie against Leicester City last January, for example, saw adults charged £20 for their seats.
Today THFC announced, 8 days after the draw, ticket prices for our third round League Cup tie against Gillingham. They are £25 for adults, £15 for seniors and £10 for juniors. We immediately contacted THFC to ask why prices had been increased. The Club told us that they had wanted to maintain the previous pricing structure of £20, £10, £5. However, Gillingham had insisted on the prices now being charged. The delay in announcing details had been because Gillingham refused to budge on the price structure, and the agreement of both Clubs is needed in the League Cup.
So we are left with a situation where, despite the wishes of THFC and THST, Gillingham have pushed up prices for both Spurs fans and their own fans.
Gillingham’s fans will no doubt make their own judgement on their club’s willingness to boost their coffers at fans’ expense. We understand the financial value of a draw against a Premier League team, but the Gills were already guaranteed a healthy payday. The fact the club was prepared to force through a doubling of kids’ prices and a 50% increase for pensioners makes their actions all the more regrettable.
For Spurs fans without season ticket voucher access to this game, this pricing will be a concern during an exceptionally busy period of fixtures.
