Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Toby Alderweireld has not sustained any ligament damage and should be fit to play Liverpool in the League Cup next Tuesday.
Alderweireld suffered a heavy knock in a collision with compatriot Jan Vertonghen against West Brom and there were fears he could be out of action for a long time. Pochettino has allayed these fears:
“It will be difficult (this weekend) because it is very painful but the reaction was good,” Pochettino told reporters.
“The scan was clear, no problems but we need to wait because it was a very heavy knock and we have to see. It will be difficult for the weekend.”
So he’s likely to miss the trip to Bournemouth but should be available for Liverpool. We should be thankful it isn’t as bad as we thought!
