Toby – Nacer unlucky not to play more at Spurs

Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has hailed former team-mate Nacer Chadli, saying that the winger was “unlucky” to not get more game time at White Hart Lane.

Chadli departed Spurs for West Brom in the summer after starting just ten Premier League games last season for the club, but Tony Pulis still made the Belgian the Baggies’ record signing.

That decision appears to have been a strong one with Chadli already repaying some of his fee with three goals in four Premier League appearances.

“I think Nacer was a bit unlucky at Tottenham. He has a lot of quality as a player and works very hard as well, a true professional.”

“It is difficult when there are so many good players in a squad as there are at Tottenham, every player’s situation is different. I think he wanted to play more.

“It was his decision and we miss him at Spurs. We who played with him at Spurs and still for the national team know that very well.

“And you have seen at West Brom how well he is doing already. That was no surprise to me. He has made a quick impact there, has scored goals and impressed people after going there for a large fee.”
