Rumours circulating the internet today suggest Jan Vertonghen is yet to sign a contract extension at Tottenham due to ongoing tension with Mauricio Pochettino.
Vertonghen has been an influential part of the best defence in the league this season – conceding just 3 goals. He and compatriot Toby Alderweireld are possibly the best centre back pairing in the Premier League and as a result we are keen to give new contracts to both.
However, Vertonghen is hesitating on signing a new deal due to a disagreement with manager Mauricio Pochettino. This stems from our Champions League loss to Monaco when Vertonghen (amongst many others) had poor games.
Vertonghen was arguably at fault for one of the goals and Mauricio Pochettino heavily criticised the team and individuals on their performances. This has caused some friction between the player and the coach and despite 5 wins in a row since that game – Vertonghen still hasn’t got over the exchange.
