City poised to make final move to sign Kane

Manchester City are poised for a final move to sign Harry Kane this week, as the Tottenham forward made his first appearance of the season.

Kane was introduced as a late substitute in Tottenham’s victory at Wolves, with his future remaining uncertain ahead of the transfer deadline on August 31.

Premier League champions City are set to table another bid for the England international this week, though Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is determined to avoid selling the talismanic forward.

Kane was given a warm reception by the travelling supporters, who chanted “he’s one of our own” before he appeared as a 72nd minute substitute.

He had missed the matches against City and Pacos De Ferreira and head coach Nuno Espirito Santo was unable to offer any guarantees that Kane would face the Portuguese club in the Europa Conference League play-off second leg.

“Harry helped the team. We are talking about one of the best players in the world and we are very lucky to have him,” he said. “It’s too soon to know if he will be involved on Thursday. Now I cannot answer that.

“He is getting back to his fitness and he still has to improve. You could see the way he helped the team in terms of possession and the fine lines. We need everybody.”

Tottenham are targeting signings of their own before the deadline, with Wolves winger Adama Traore understood to be high on Nuno’s list. Negotiations over a new Wolves contract for the Spain international have yet to be resolved and Tottenham are considering a £40 million offer.
