Harry Kane’s Tottenham teammate Oliver Skipp says the England captain will continue to “give his all” for the club after returning to action in Sunday’s win over Wolves.
Having missed the matches against Manchester City and Pacos de Ferreira while he angles for a move to the League champions, Kane played the final 20 minutes at Molineux, with Spurs leading through Dele Alli’s ninth-minute penalty.
The striker was lively, if a little rusty, and nearly doubled Spurs’ lead with an effort saved by Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa.
Kane remains desperate to join City before the end of the month but Skipp says he is still one of the best trainers at the club and will perform when called upon.
“Harry’s one of the best strikers in the world, so we’re always happy when he’s available,” Skipp told Standard Sport.
“Everyone knows what Harry is, he’s a professional, so he’ll give it his all when he comes on the pitch. He’s always one of the best trainers and he’s continued to do that. As you saw yesterday when he came on, he had that impact.”
Kane was mocked by his own supporters during the opening-day win over City a week earlier but the away end sung his name on Sunday and he applauded them at full-time, as Spurs made it back-to-back Premier League wins under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Nuno praised the “amazing” fans for their reaction to Kane’s return and says the whole club “have to be together”.
“I understand many of the [opinions] but we are Tottenham Hotspur,” Nuno said. “Everybody wants to feel good and be good. I was pleased with the attitude of our fans. We have amazing fans and we have to be very thankful for it. I think Harry did well, he helped the team.”
Meanwhile, Skipp admits he is pushing to join Kane in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers after catching the eye at the start of this season.
Southgate was at Molineux and Skipp could be a surprise inclusion in the England squad on Thursday.
“I’m not getting carried away, I’ve only played two games this season,” said the 20-year-old, who is already a regular for the Under-21s. “But it’s a dream to represent your country, especially at the moment after how they did at the Euros. So it’s always something I’m pushing for but there’s no rush. All I can do is keep performing.”
Skipp spent last season on loan at Norwich in the second tier and he added: “Definitely it’s a massive step up from the Championship. Just staying focussed for 90 minutes [is a challenge] because one lapse, and you’ll get punished. But I’m really enjoying the challenge. I’m trying to put my stamp on the game.”
Southgate would also have been impressed by Dele, who put in another bustling display in the midfield three and scored a penalty after being brought down by Sa.
