Eric Dier was “laughing” at those who claim Tottenham have an advantage with the FA Cup semi-finals being held at Wembley.
Tottenham reached the final four of the competition with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Swansea in the quarter-finals.
They now face Manchester United at their temporary home for a place in the final – although they are the ‘away team’ for the game.
Some have raised the point that Tottenham have an unfair advantage by playing at Wembley, their home stadium this season, and that it cannot possibly be a neutral venue.
There was ‘growing opposition’ from certain clubs at Tottenham being allowed to play the semi-final effectively on home turf, but Dier has raised a fair point.
“One minute Wembley is bad for us and next it is good for us,” he said.
“The fact that we played our home games there this season you would think it would be a benefit for us – but it is the FA Cup semi-final, so it will be hard no matter what.
“That’s why I was laughing. That’s football, I guess.”
“The FA Cup is a completely different competition, a one-off game and the fans are split down the middle, the atmosphere will be different to a league game.
“The fact we played our home games there this season you would think would be a benefit for us but it is the FA Cup semi-final so it will be hard no matter what.”
