Former player believes Rose is “fortunate” to be in England World Cup squad

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Darren Anderton believes Danny Rose is fortunate to have been selected in England’s World Cup squad.

The Spurs left-back has had an injury hit season and has not been a first team regular for his club over the campaign, with Ben Davies having become the number one in the position under Mauricio Pochettino.

Anderton does think Rose has had a touch of fortune to be in Gareth Southgate’s squad, but he believes the defender’s previous displays for his country have edged it for him.

“I think Danny Rose is a little fortunate to be in the World Cup squad because he hasn’t played much for Tottenham this season,” Anderton told bwin.

“He’s had a couple of injuries and his mouth has got him into trouble once or twice, but he has earned his place in the side based of his past performances for club and country.

“He’s been one of England’s best players in the last couple of years so he deserves to be there.”
