Loan Update 08-09-2025

New for the 2025/26 season we will be bringing you a loan update for all of our players from the first team and the academy who are out at other clubs (hopefully) getting lots of minutes and developing.

The club have sent two of our brightest academy prospects up north of the wall to Scotland with defender Alfie Dorrington returning to Aberdeen where he won the Scottish FA Cup last season after joining them in January.  This time he is there for the full season.  Joining him in Scotland is Europa League winner Mikey Moore who will play for Glasgow Rangers for the duration of the 2025/26 season.

Also heading out away from England on loan are Manor Solomon who has joined Spanish side Villarreal, Alejo Veliz who has returned to Argentina with former club Rosario Central and young Croatian defender Luke Vuskovic is in Germany for the season with Hamburg.

Staying in England we have Tyrese Hall in League 2 at Notts County, George Abbott at Wycombe Wanderers and Damola Ajayi at Doncaster Rovers in League 1.  In the Championship this season we have Will Lankshear at Oxford Utd, Yang min-Hyeok at Portsmouth, Alfie Devine at Preston North End and both Ashley Phillips and Jamie Donley together at Stoke City.

Now you know where everyone is, the key question is how is everyone doing and in this most recent week we have had an international break so only three players got minutes this weekend and so below is my summary:

Tyrese Hall (Midfielder) – on loan at Notts County

Game: Home to Fleetwood (Won 1-0)

Unused Substitute

Personal Opinion: 6 League Two games have been played so far, with Hall not coming off the bench for half of the games. Only time will tell if this is a good loan, but he will definitely need to get some more game time.

George Abbott (Midfielder) – on loan at Wycombe Wanderers

Game: Home to Mansfield Town (Won 2-0)

Minutes Played: 90

Pass Accuracy: 20/25 (80%)

Chances Created: 2

Interceptions/Recoveries: 7

Personal Opinion: With an average game rating of 7.4, Abbott is looking to have a solid start to the season. He has featured in all the games so far this season.

Damola Ajayi (Winger) – on loan at Doncaster Rovers

Game: Home to Bradford City (lost 3-1)

Minutes Played: 9

Pass Accuracy: 4/4 (100%)

Personal Opinion: It is hard to make an impact 3-1 down with 9 minutes to go. Out of the 7 league games so this season (630 minutes), Ajayi has only played a total of 118 minutes. Doncaster are on very good form at the moment, undefeated in league two, so it will take some impressive cameos from Ajayi to make the team.

In addition to all of the players out on loan also included in this round-up each week we will also keep an eye on Mason Melia, the 17yr old Irish striker the club have signed but cannot join formally until he turns 18 (same as Luka Vukovic).

During this international break the young man aged just 17 scored twice for the Republic of Ireland U21’s.  He is the youngest ever goalscorer for ROI U21’s beating the previous record set by a certain Troy Parrott.
