Reports today believe Josh Onomah is set for a season long loan to Aston Villa. It’s believed the midfielder has requested a loan with manager Mauricio Pochettino reluctantly agreeing to let him leave.
This could be a good move for the player that has divided many Spurs fans. Those who have watched him grow through the youth sides have seen the best of him and know the potential he has. During the England U20’s recent tournament success – it was Onomah who was the real driving force. However, his performances for Spurs (albeit limited) have not showcased his talents and fans have been left questioning his ability.
What seems apparent to me is he needs to be played in CM. At Tottenham this is an integral position and the competition for places is fierce. This has led to him being played in more attacking roles. Hopefully he will get the chance at Aston Villa to play his favoured position and learn the role, grow in confidence and come back a stronger player for it. I don’t believe this loan signatures the end for Onomah at Spurs – Pochettino rates him highly and I’m given to understand didn’t want to let him leave. Hopefully this will be the start of Onomah.
