Mauricio Pochettino believes he has put more power into his Spurs engine room with the £41million signings of Moussa Sissoko and Victor Wanyama.
Sissoko was captured on Deadline Day from Newcastle in a £30million deal while Wanyama signed from Southampton for just £11milion.
Pochettino likened his side to a car given a huge boost to its driving force by his new arrivals.
He said: “It’s like when you build your own car and put in different options.
“I think Wanyama and Sissoko are not only strong, big guys, they can play good football too. They have very good skill. It’s a good balance.”
Critics have claimed Spurs overpaid for Sissoko whose outstanding displays to inspire France to the Euro 2016 finals were at odds with his poor attitude as Newcastle went down last season.
But Pochettino said: “It was not only Sissoko, the whole team at Newcastle, for different reasons [did not perform].
“When the team does not perform as well, it’s difficult, and they were relegated. But it was all the team.
“When they don’t perform it’s lack of (this), lack of (that), but it’s not only one reason, it’s maybe many reasons that can affect the player.”
