Tottenham can take a significant step towards the knockout stages of the Champions League with victory over Bayer Leverkusen at Wembley on Wednesday.
Spurs are winless in all competitions in five after three straigth Premier League draws, October’s stalemate in Leverkusen and defeat in the EFL Cup at Anfield last week.
Harry Kane’s possible return to the first-team squad will come as a boost to the north Londoners, who have scored just twice in three European matches this term.
But Pochettino hopes those behind Tottenham’s spearhead will begin contributing goals
The Spurs boss said: “We cannot have all the pressure on our striker. Our second line need to score more, be more determined, and maybe we are lacking those goals this season.”
TEAM NEWS
Tottenham could welcome Harry Kane back to the matchday squad for the visit of Bayer Leverkusen.
The striker has not featured since sustaining an ankle ligament injury in the narrow victory over Sunderland in September.
When asked about the 22-year-old’s chances of featuring in the Champions League group game, Maricio Pochettino responded: “Wednesday 50 per cent and Sunday [against Arsenal] we will see. We will see.”
Meanwhile, Toby Alderweireld is closing in on a return after picking up a knee injury against West Brom earlier this month and Erik Lamela is expected to recover from an illnes.
