SN Blog 22 – ‘The North London Derby’

So at least twice a season we play the scum.  Sometimes we get a cup draw with them, like maybe the FA Cup this year… oh no… wait… hey perhaps if we beat Juventus maybe in the Champions League… oh … no…. so with them not being left in any major competition this season we will only face them twice.

Sadly, earlier this year they, and it hurts me to say it, beat us not only in terms of winning the game but they massively out played us.  For the first time under Pochettino.  So, to be blunt, we need revenge.  We need to take them apart.  We need to win.

On a personal note I do not enjoy the North London Derby.  I never have.  I endure it.  Sometimes, fewer than I would like, at the end I feel awesome (Thank you Harry Kane) but it is circa 90 mins of me stressed and hoping that we play like I know we can.

For me, if we play to our potential we will win the game.  Yes they have signed a very good forward in Aubameyang however he is replacing a very good forward for them in Sanchez.  They have, in my opinion, not improved – they have stayed the same.

During his press conference Thursday Pochettino hinted at the strength we may see on our bench with our new signing possibly getting his first minutes for us in a North London Derby.  Fingers crossed he comes on with 15 minutes to go when we are three goals to the good.  One can dream right?

The other key question is with Toby coming through 90 minutes in the FA Cup does he start?  We are know Davinson Sanchez has been good for us this season but he is young and this is his first season in the Premier League – he on occasion I think needs resting.

Selection debates can happen across the whole team however the one player we can all agree is starting no matter what is Harry Kane.  Harry has a record of scoring 6 goals in 6 games against the scum from Woolwich and is a run he is keen to continue.

Forgetting the obvious bragging rights significance this game is also very important to our season.  We are currently fifth in the table but after winning against Manchester United and picking up a point at Anfield we are back in contention for the top four – a win against Arsenal will create more of a gap between us and them – also if results go our way move us back into the top four.

So, here we go, it is game day.  With Harry in our team we know as fans we have someone who gets it about the derby.  We need to win.  We must win!  COME ON YOU SPURS!!
