Spurs take an interest in West Ham defender

Declan Rice has been attracting interest from several top clubs of late and now West Ham’s London rivals also want a piece of the action.

Tottenham have expressed an interest in the young defender, but if they are to make an offer for the youngster they may have to compete with the deep pockets of Manchester United and Chelsea.

The West Ham man currently pockets around £3,000-a-week, but his deal expires in 2020.

He has been hailed as the best young player at the club thanks to his recent form which has led to Spurs expressing an interest in signing the defender, who will be available on a free next summer.

It could be a bargain for the financially savvy club, who made history this year by not making any summer signings thanks to soaring stadium costs.

While West Ham are keen to get the defender to extend his contract, talks have ground to a halt with no formal negotiations having taken place for months.

The 19-year-old was voted Young Hammer of the year last season, for the second successive year, and is a big hit with fans.

But the young player, who came through the ranks at West Ham after being let-go by Chelsea at 15, could well be off to a top-six club.
