Defiant Harry Kane has insisted he is not tired and that he will not duck out of the Spurs team.
The 23-year-old England striker has faced fresh suggestions that he needs a rest, with critics suggesting he should be dropped for Tottenham ’s Premier League clash at home to Sunderland this weekend.
It comes after another below-par early-season display from him — this time as they lost their Champions League group-stage opener to French side Monaco at Wembley on Wednesday night.
Kane hit back, however: “People said that this time last year and I went on to win the Golden Boot and score 30-odd goals for club and country.
“People are going to talk — people will talk. It doesn’t bother me. I’m fit, I’m ready to go.
“I’ll be ready on Sunday, if called upon by the gaffer, and hopefully I can get on the scoresheet and win the game.”
Kane, who is in just his second full campaign at Tottenham, hit his first goal in 10 games for club and country during Saturday’s 4-0 win at Stoke.
Last season, he scored just once in his first 15 club matches following a breakthrough 204-15 season to fuel suspicions he was a one-year wonder, but ended up winning the Premier League’s Golden Boot with 24 top-flight goals.
Kane maintains he has lost none of his belief in his ability in front of goal.
He shrugged off a second-half miss against Monaco which he normally would have buried to earn his Spurs side a point.
He added: “As a striker, you’ve got to be confident. I will never lose my confidence in front of goal. I’ll be there on Sunday — if I get a chance — shooting and making the keeper work.
“Obviously I had a chance against Monaco that I should have scored. I just didn’t connect with it the way that I wanted to, but that’s football.
