Trippier “not optimistic” about Newcastle

The Telegraph are reporting that Kieran Trippier is not optimistic about his chances of playing against Newcastle United this weekend.

Trippier sustained an ankle injury in the final pre-season game against Juventus. Due to substantial swelling he has had to wait until Monday to have scans and he will find out the results shortly. However, Trippier is not optimistic about the results. Initial thoughts are that he did not sustain a break but there remains a concern that he will be out of action for a few weeks.

This obviously leaves a hole in the side. His back up – Kyle Walker-Peters – is not deemed ready by Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino. This leaves utility man Eric Dier his most likely replacement along with Moussa Sissoko as an alternative.
